According to the new CDC guidelines, fully vaccinated Americans do not have to wear a mask in public, unless in a big crowd of strangers. The changes have been implemented since more than half of American adults received at least one dose of the vaccine, while about a third are fully vaccinated.
In an unprecedented show of solidarity, the CEOs of 40 US companies including Deloitte, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft have created the first-ever country-specific task force to help coordinate resources and fight COVID-19 in India. This US public-private partnership aims to bring 20,000 oxygen concentrators to India within the next few weeks, along with other critical medical supplies and vaccines.
Many economists have predicted that India’s second wave of COVID-19 infections could peak around mid-May when the recovery rate is at 77.8%. With an increased capacity of vaccine production, India could have 15% of its population fully vaccinated by October 2021, while 63% would have received one dose.
Cases seem to be climbing new heights every day, with Bengaluru’s single highest daily spike coming today at 39,047 fresh cases of COVID-19. This took the total tally to 14.39 lakhs and 15,036 deaths.
A quick glance at the data reveals that Karnataka has been underreporting cases by a very high margin, more than 25,000. As of Wednesday, the cumulative number of infections was reported to be 14,39,822, however, the patient numbers allotted that day were well over 14,60,000.
