CoWIN Server Crashes as Hundreds of Thousands Sign Up for Vaccination

The registration for vaccination for those between 18-45 years old opened today at 4 pm, and to no one’s surprise, servers of the CoWIN app and website, UMANG app, and Aarogya Setu app crashed. Users took to Twitter to air concerns, while many suggested trying the website versions rather than the app.

Maharashtra Lockdown Likely to be Extended Beyond April 30th

Maharashtra state public health minister Raj Tope stated on Wednesday that the current lockdown maybe extended for another 15 more days in order to control the rising stress on public health infrastructure. The exact number of days is yet to be determined.

India on Monday reported a grim 352,991 new cases, growing its global share of active COVID-19 cases to 14.9%. Indian states worst affected by this wave, having the biggest daily net increase in active cases, are Karnataka (27679), Kerala (20317), Uttar Pradesh (9472), Rajasthan (9086), and Andhra Pradesh (8261).

Experts say Maharashtra May Have Turned a Corner in Fighting COVID-19

Despite conducting over 41,000 tests, Mumbai reported a mere 3,792 cases on Monday. Dr. Shashank Joshi, a member of the Maharashtra Government’s COVID-19 task force, said the turnaround was made possible by using what they called the ‘ATM strategy’,  which stands for ‘Assess, Triage and Transfer, and Management’.
