On Monday, India logged 27,254 new cases of COVID-19, and 219 deaths. The country’s active caseload now stands at 3,74,269, a 4.7% reduction from yesterday. The maximum number of casualties came from Kerala (67) and Maharashtra (46). The top 5 contributing states are Kerala at 20,240 new cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,608 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,190 cases, Karnataka with 803 cases and West Bengal with 751 cases. Kerala contributed to 74.26% of total infections. India’s recovery rate now stands at 97.54%. Though India’s vaccination rate has been exceptional, experts worry that overcrowding during the upcoming festival season may cause a spike in infections.
