WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made a keynote speech at the 138th International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in Japan. When speaking about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, he said “The mark of success is making sure that any cases are identified, isolated, traced and cared for as quickly as possible and onward transmission is interrupted”. Ghebreyesus said he is often asked one particular question over and over. “I am often asked when the pandemic will end. My answer is equally simple: the pandemic will end when the world chooses to end it. We have the tools to prevent transmission, and save lives.”
