Dr. Randeep Guleria, chief of All India Institute of Medical Sciences told reporters last week that a third wave of COVID-19 infections would be inevitable, and maybe likely to hit in the next 6-8 weeks. However, this claim has been refuted by many top virologists, including Dr. Vijaya, a retired professor of microbiology at IISc. “There is no scientific data or any technical basis to predict a fresh surge. However, what we need to be careful about is the possibility of the receding present wave getting aggravated by people throwing caution to the wind.”
